Guarded Status daily checks — we send the engineer.
Manitoba's Guarded Status approval requires a licensed power engineer to attend your plant every day and complete a full inspection round. BoilerIQ provides that engineer — so your compliance obligation is covered without hiring full-time staff.
Get in touchUnder Manitoba's Guarded Status framework, a facility whose plant has received government approval to operate without continuous licensed supervision is still required to have a qualified power engineer visit every day. That engineer must inspect the plant, check all safety limit controls, and sign the daily log. BoilerIQ fulfils that requirement on your behalf.
Is your plant eligible for Guarded Status?
Guarded Status may apply to 5th Class plants meeting specific pressure and capacity requirements under Manitoba regulation. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Class Steam Plants are not eligible under any circumstance. If your plant already has approval, or you are exploring whether it qualifies, get in touch and we can help you understand what the daily check obligation looks like in practice.

How Guarded Status approval works
Approval is granted directly by Manitoba's BPV division. Once your plant has it, the daily check requirement kicks in — that's where BoilerIQ comes in.
Submit a written request
Send a written request to the Director of ITS at bpvintake@gov.mb.ca indicating your plant wishes to apply for Guarded Status.
Confirm plant maintenance and testing
Confirm in writing that the plant will be well maintained and that all safety limit controls will be tested regularly by a qualified power engineer.
BPV inspector visit
A BPV inspector will visit your plant to confirm acceptability and witness the testing of all safety systems and limit controls.
Receive official approval
Once approved, your plant receives an official government letter granting permission to operate under Guarded Status.
What we do
We supply a qualified, licensed power engineer to attend your plant each day, carry out the full inspection round required under your Guarded Status conditions, and leave a signed record on site. You stay compliant without carrying the overhead of a full-time hire.
- Licensed power engineer attends your plant daily
- Full inspection round completed to government requirements
- Signed daily log left on site after each visit
- Safety readings and control checks documented
- Flexible scheduling around your facility's hours
- Serving steam and refrigeration plants across Manitoba
Why the daily check matters
Guarded Status is not a permanent exemption from engineer attendance — it is a conditional approval. Manitoba's BPV division requires that a licensed power engineer visit the plant daily, verify all safety limit controls are functioning, and sign the log. Missing checks puts your approval at risk and can lead to operational shutdown. Having a dedicated service provider cover this removes the gap.
